General Discussion / Engine Timing and Vacuum Gauge
« on: February 12, 2011, 04:55:10 PM »
Have the '51 Frazer distributor set such that 20" vacuum is achieved on a vacuum gauge, indicating timing set accurately. Once started the car idles smoothly and ascends hills ok and goes down the road alright as far as I have taken it about 1/4 mile.  However, the car is very difficult to start and exhibits this "kick-back" type scenario where it sounds like the starter maybe is not enaging. Any thoughts?

General Discussion / Moulding Clips
« on: January 29, 2011, 08:14:51 PM »
Need door moulding, rear window, and rocker panel moulding clips but so far several places checked have come up with nothing that will work. Suggestions of where to find moulding clips?  Tried Restoration Specialties and they don't appear to carry what I need.

Frazer Forum / '51 Frazer hardtop rocker panel moldings
« on: December 24, 2010, 03:56:08 PM »
So I look in the '51 parts book and find "moulding 2 and 3/8" wide."  That matches one side of my '51 Frazer hardtop, but not the other side which is 2 and 1/4" wide the entire length. I do not recall which side is which after 3 years now.  Other than with 1/8" difference in width, the shape and lengths are the same. A universal type attachment clip will handle this, but I find it a bit curious. Also on this car there were seven single square holes on the driver side but seven double (one slightly higher and beside the other) holes on the passenger side.

Frazer Forum / '51 Frazer hardtop rear window body moulding
« on: December 23, 2010, 11:54:54 AM »
Unable to find the moulding bolts listed in the '51 Frazer parts list for the rear body moulding below the rear window moulding. There are 20 molding bolts total, 10 for each side trim. The moulding bolts that we were able to remove w/o breaking take a 10/32" nut, at least on this one hardtop, but on the other hardtop I cannot find any size nut to fit and they are physically different. Looking in Restoration Specialties online catalog pages 124-125 http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2009%20Catalog%20ebook/2009%20Catalog%20ebook.pdf but don't readily see a matchup although #2788, or #3317 "appear" they could work, although they take 10-24 nuts which is no problem. My concern is fitting inside the moulding. Anyone know the correct size that will work or another source?

General Discussion / Quarterly and Keller automobile
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:11:48 PM »
Terrific Quarterly just arrived with lots of very interesting reading. FYI, on page 26 reference is made to the Keller automobile.  Below is a website dedicated to the car made right here in Huntsville, Al on the Redstone Arsenal.  I believe there are at least two or three remaining and definitely one just across the Tennessee River on Brindlee Mountain that is undergoing a restoration with much dedicate effort to the all the wood paneling.

Anyone know if the window regulators on the '51 Vagabond are the same or can work for the '51 hardtop?

It's been over four months now since I've posted about this car.  We were down for three months until we got a replacement axle shaft in the car from Rudy Phillips and got a new exhaust system on it. Two other things were supposed to have been done at a particular local shop relative to body work, but after nothing had been for two months, I went and got the car, which was an "interesting event" I must say. But to the problem. This car just will not move forward or backward under any load, like a ramp or small hill. It will idle ok and rev up ok and on a flat surface will move, but it is underwhleming. Up a hill forget it.
As you "may" recall from previous postings last year, the engine has been totally rebuilt with all new parts including carburetor, fuel pump, distributor components, plugs, wires, gas tank cleaned, filters, brakes, all that stuff. Timing checked. The choke plate is functioning and this is the second rebuilt carburetor on the car and no change in characteristics. The car will start and idle nut even after a 15-20 minute warmup with choke plate fully open, drop it Drive or Reverse, apply the pedal and the car dies. Any ideas?  Very frustrating!

Until I can get the electrovacuum motor rebuilt, is there a way to get the windows down in the car?   The motor is shorted out and not functional.

Frazer Forum / '51 Frazer rear axle shaft
« on: October 09, 2009, 10:59:36 AM »
Even though on the right back side of the car I needed to use a hub puller, I am unable to thread the axle nut back on tight. The nut as well as the axles shaft end threads are damaged although it is unknown how considering the effort with the hub puller. On my '55 Studebaker President I was fortunate enough to be able to order a NOS one from a Srudebaker supplier, but unless anyone has any other ideas I guess it's remove the axle and have a machine shop turn it down and rethread to the next size.  Anyone know if any of the K/F vendors would have one of these?  Parts car shaft also bad.

Recent engine rebuild and just finished up all the brakes.  Car not driven for decades.  Tranny new fluid and no leaks.  Tried to move the car today and no motion.  Gear shift lever moved through N, D, L, and R with not even a hint of engagement. Linkage at the tranny responds to all four lever detents. Ideas?
