Autolite starters
« on: December 25, 2017, 07:31:51 AM »
Could someone tell me if the Autolite starters for the 4 cylinder and the 6 cylinder are the same. My 4 cylinder starter has gone bad and I have one for a 6 that I am hoping to be able to use.

The starting motors are the same between the four and six cylinder engines. Both show part number 212546 in the 1951 parts book.

Don't know what went wrong with your starter but this guy has a variety of pristine NOS AutoLite solenoids

We thought the starter was bad so I took it off the car and brought it to our local starter and alternator repair shop. Turns out the starter solenoid was bad. He furnished and installed a new one and only charged us $27.00. Starter is back on and we are now driving once again. Thanks once again for the information. This group is great.
