Center Grill Support Rod
« on: April 09, 2013, 10:52:38 AM »
The 52 Corsair Deluxe we recently bought came with all grill pieces, but it was all off the car.  I am putting it all back on the car.  I am missing the center grill support between splash pan and center bar.  Anyone have a close up picture of one?  Was it angled?  Was it chrome?   Was it black?  I can fabricate one if I know what suppose to look like.

I believe the one you are referring to is shown at the bottom of this page.

Must be a 1/4 inch rod.  I will get a picture off the one from our 53 HJ.

Thanks Jim.  So it is just a straight rod?

Not a straight Rod...
I think this is what you are looking for.
If it is let me know and I will give you measurements.

I believe what you're looking for is pictured here with the red circle around it.

Unfortunately, my cars are still in winter storage as we're supposed to get more snow this week. When I get them out, I'll take some better pictures. It's a round iron piece, about 3/16" dia. It is bent and offset on both ends to bolt into place. You could take a piece of round stock, heat it with a torch on the end, flatten about an inch on each side and form it while it's hot. Then drill it. One end bolts to the center grill bar and the other bolts to the piece Jim just posted.

Ok, now I am totally confused guys.  FID, you are right on with what I am asking.  But then I have pictures of the bracket.  (Thanks Jim). Where does the bracket go and how does Rod FID circled attach to big rod.
My car came with parts from 2 other Henry J's parted out over the years.  I have three Rods like Jim posted.  Where does that go?????
I have a 51-53 shop manual and I have a 51 parts book with green cover, I am not finding what Jim posted.
Here is photo of three brackets I have.  This would all make since if I had been one that tore car down, but I have to figure this puzzle out.  I have the pieces except that piece Fid circled.

All those rods I pictured are the same exact in size.  My iphone was getting alot of glare so photo was taken at angle.

Ok, looking at the bracket, then the car, then the forum, then back to car, shop manual, back to car, parts book, and back to forum, I see the bracket now in Fids photo.  I just need to fabricate a small rod from one of my two extras to go to the center grill bar

Thanks everyone, without this form I would be lost.

Is the small piece I need to fabricate the same diameter as the big bracket Jim posted?

I believe it's a smaller diameter, as mentioned, is about 3/16" but you may want to wait till I can get at my cars and take a good picture. With 8" of snow predicted today, it may be a while.

Mine is from a 53 HJ Corsair Deluxe.  Made from a 3/8 Tubing ... flattened in several spots and then bent.  Possibly 52s are different.  I wish I had the HJ Parts stash I sold Seth 10 years ago ... as there were several off them in the stash.

I was out at the shed to start my cars today. Still too much snow to get them out but I did take pictures of that grill support bar.
Here it is from the outside front (radiator in the background)

And here is how it looks from behind (held the camera behind the grill work and snapped this one)

By the way, these are two different cars. One blue and one yellow.

Thanks Fid for the photos, they are excellent examples for me to see what it should look like.  I really appreciate the time you took taking the photos.
