1953 Kaiser Traveler Deluxe - Shocks
« on: December 28, 2014, 08:02:43 PM »
I just purchased a 1953 Kaiser Traveler Deluxe.   I need shock absorbers.   Has anyone converted the old Monroe numbers,  740740 on the front and 73375 on the back, to current shocks that are close???   I had to do that on my Darrin and it came out fine.

Otherwise I will have to take one each off and try to match closely to a current one.   I hope someone has already done that.

Do these new part numbers also apply to a '53 Manhattan?

Yes, the numbers are good for all full size Kaisers from 1947 thru 55.

I replaced all 4 shocks on my 51 K Deluxe last year with today's Monroe.

Front is MONROE SENSA-TRAC, part number 5751
Rear is MONROE MATIC-PLUS, part number 31094

Available at my local car parts supplier, not expensive and did the job !  8)

Thanks to the club members for the references.

I thought the Shocks need to be BLACK in order to make the Judges happy at the convention... In 2008 I got dinged for not having BLACK Shocks.. So if you buy these suggested here, you will have to pain them Black.. Is this correct today too? Thanks, EDC

Yes, shock absorbers should be black.
