Oil Level
« on: June 06, 2009, 08:51:30 PM »
I changed the oil and filter in the Kaiser yesterday and the manual says to add 5 quarts for the crankcase, plus one more if you change the filter.  This car is new to me, and when I checked the dipstick it looked about 1 quart over.  Anyone know if there were dipstick changes and/or spec. changes on the amount of oil the 226 should take?

Thanks,
Cory (Logan)

Know of nothing contrary to the 6 quarts, but in the many oil changes I have performed on mine, I have noticed from time to time 6 quarts will overfill it slightly and I always siphon all the oil out of the filter canister as well.  ~ 1/2 quart over probably not a problem. But be very sure the high mark on the dipstick is not coolant in the oil from a faulty head gasket.  The oil, of course, would be muddy looking in that case.
