Replacing the trunk fabric
«

In the process of putting my '54 Manhattan back together.
Has anyone any advise how to put the fabric in the trunk?
When I purchased the car there was no fabric in the trunk at all.
I guess my greatest concern is how to deal with the spare tire hole and cover for the same.
When cutting out the hole should the fabric to remain as the fabric for the cover be cut slightly smaller than the cover? This would leave a small amount of fabric to go inside he hole or should the floor covering also be cut so no material hangs over the edge of the hole.
The cover has that rubber edging that goes around the cover. I feel that this rubber edging needs some room to fit properly when all is completely finished.
Any ideas as to deal with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

The trunk material should lay under the cover gasket, not butt up against it. From the factory, the material was rough cut and some did hang over into the well.
The material on the cover should fit under the gasket.

Thank you for the advice. It is what I was thinking it must have been like.
It is comforting to have my ideas confirmed.
