rear axle bearing retainer
« on: February 07, 2022, 11:18:30 AM »
What is the proper location of the  rear axle bearing retainer.  The HJ shop manual and 51 Kaiser manual shows it placed after the brake support plate. If it  (bearing retainer) goes on after the shims...what would be proper placement of the gasket?

Sometimes the diagrams in the Parts Books can be good.  Here's the one from the '51 Kaiser Parts Manual.  See if this helps.

1951 Kaiser Special

None of the diagrams like that show where the brake support plate comes into play.  When i took mine apart the retainer was next to the shims then the brake support plate.  In the  manuals the written verbage tells that it goes in after the brake support plate.  I'm thinking the manuals are correct?
