Kaiser Dragon "Show Car"???
« on: March 08, 2011, 01:48:04 AM »
Has anyone seen the 888, 999 trim Dragon being advertised on Old Ride. It looks complete but not sure of claims. No price given. Says: "Rust in the usual places for a Kaiser" One taillight broken but looks like all the Dragon trim is there. Look at: http://www.oldride.com/classic_cars/115630.html

Could that be a Chicago show car at one time? Looks like it would need a LOT of work.  ::)

I've been contacted by the person who owns the car.  It appears to be a 1953 Auto Show Special and I tried to put him in contact with Jerry Johnson about it as Jerry knows more about the details of these cars than I do.

For something like this, needs work is a somewhat relative thing.  You really can't evaluate this as you would a regular Kaiser or even a regular Kaiser Dragon, at least that's my thought on the matter.

Thanks for the input. How would you verify the Auto Show claim? Were any factory records kept on the show cars like the one Clyde Beatty is always shown getting in. I think that was a 51 however.

These are cool cars.  It would be great it this one got restored, and I think it would be worth doing as these are so rare.

To answer the question about how to tell an autoshow car:

1.  There was only one color for the auto show cars with only one color vinyl top.  Having been familiar with Jerry Johnson I could identify that aspect.

2.  Besides the 999 and 888 special paint and trim numbers, the door post serial number should read K530-X followed by a single digit number.  In this cars case, it is a 7 which makes sense as it was built in June 1953.  Remember, people with pull could get cars special ordered.
