Speaking about The Quarterly and Ben Walker, Adam Harder and his mother Karen were in Nacogdoches today. Karen asked to go to the main post office and I took her there. While she waited in line for service, I told her about the times Ben, me, and my brother stood in the same line to mail off the Quarterly copies that required stamps (copies in envelopes for over seas, etc.). After a number of years of metered postage on those items THAT post office insisted we put individual stamps (usually an odd sum such as $2.18 that required a variety of stamps that overpaid the postage). As a result we confused incoming customers because we were using the available surfaces to spread out the envelopes and put on the stamps. They weren't certain who was next in line.
The last time we did that was some 10 years ago - and yet the 2 women who were doing the work where there should have been 3 were there 10 years ago.
