1947 kaiser motor
« on: February 09, 2014, 05:23:57 PM »
I know where there is a 47 Kaiser motor that is claimed to be rebuilt.  Is that motor the same as the one in my 1954 early special and if I were to put it in my car will it make it make my car worth less? Is it better to rebuild the one I have in the car if needed?      Thanks in advance for the answers.

While the block and internals are essentially the same, most everything that mounts to the engine differs from the 47 to the 54 engine. The water pump is different as is the front engine mount plate, the intake and exhaust manifolds, and the distributor, just to name a few items. Also, if the 54 has a hydramatic transmission, the crankshafts differ between the two engines as well.

You might be further ahead to rebuild your engine.

Thanks, I don't think mine needs a rebuild but thought if I could put in a new engine at the right price I would consider it. I didn't know the engines were that different.

And, some of the early '47 engines have the fuel pump at the rear which would not work well in a '54.

You can use a 1953 226 engine or a 1954-55 Engine but head will be different with the later cars. (says 226 instead of Supersonic).

Is the engine anywhere in the Mid West.  I could use one for my 48 Frazer.

Have you talked to Dale Hammon in Beloit WI about a rebuilt for your frazer?  He does good work, price is fair (I dealt with him on two engines over the years).
