can i use a 12v starter solenoid on my 6 volt system

Hello me again I'm having issues today with my starter solenoid and having more issues trying to locate one locally I read a few forms and some people say they put a 12 volt 3 posts  solenoid under 6 volt system with no problem does this work if so what's the best solenoid for my 1953 Willy Aero Falcon

No you cannot use a 12 volt anything in a 6 volt system.  the system doesn't have enough electrical power to trip it.  Your 6 volt solenoid should be the same as used on a CJ or other jeep product.

I'm not sure about the Willys cars but all Kaiser-Frazer products were 6 volt positive ground. Many people nowadays are not aware of this and connect the battery backwards so make sure yours is connected properly.  If it's connected the other way (negative ground), it will appear to work fine but eventually the generator and regulator will burn up.  Hopefully someone who knows for sure can come on here and clarify if the 6 volt Willys cars were positive ground.
