Dutch Darrin's personal car
« on: January 08, 2015, 05:35:40 PM »
I just received my newest issue of Old Cars Magazine and noticed an ad by Hollywood Wheels for this car in an auction March 13-14 at Amelia Island, FL.  The yellow Darrin with wire wheels is being offered.  Is this really Dutch's personal car?  If so it should garner quite a bit of interest. I would think that Dutch's personal car would have one of his classic fiberglass tops on it.  AmeliaIslandSelect.com is the website if you would like more information.

According to the website Gordie listed: "Our car is #393 of the full production, and very few survive. The car is powered by 6-cylinder Willys F-Head 161 CI engine with three-speed gearbox and overdrive. Documents with the car show that the car was owned by Darrin himself in1958 at which time he sold it to an owner who had the car in long-term storage. The odometer shows only 3,800 miles. The car was subject to total nut and bolt restoration to standards suitable to the most prestigious Concours lawns."
If this date coincides with the annual Amelia Island Concours, then I will be there and I'll inspect the car.

Dutch probably owned a lot of cars in his day.  I once saw an ad for a '51 Kaiser club coupe in the local Santa Monica Newspaper and when I called the seller told me that he had just sold it to Dutch Darrin.  That was about 1964.
