Do you mean the gas cap?  There are very few illustrations of the rear view of the Darrin in factory photos but the Darrin gas cap is the same part number 209732 as the 1951 Henry J which in several factory photos is body color and not polished Stainless steel or chrome plated. To complicate matters most of the illustrations in the sales brochures show the Henry J with polished or chrome gas caps.  The factory photos are all of prototype cars and some illustrations even have the gas filler on the left quarter panel instead of the right on the Henry J's.  Production wise it seems logical that they would all be one color or chrome plated.

The fuel cap on a Darrin is painted body color. The filler neck itself is natural color.

Yes, was referring just to the neck. My dad had it painted an ugly teal way back when and had just enough over spray on it for me to question...thank you for clarification on the cap too. I have a picture (somewhere) of the car in 1957 (black and white) and the cap appears to already have been changed out to the stainless it's had since I've seen it. Appreciate the help on the little things:-) the big ones will be coming too.

Noah

Since the Henry J and the Darrin use the same gas cap part number does that mean that all Henry J gas caps are painted body color also?
