Re: Hotwheels variations
« Reply #105 on: April 27, 2019, 07:36:49 PM »
Does anyone try to collect all of the Henry J varieties of Hot Wheels?  I have found twelve different ones if anyone would like a list.  I would also like to know if I am missing any.  They all seem to be race cars including one police car version.

I would get a happy meal form McDonald - if they had a hot wheel..

I had two boys.. I would just buy two or three of them over the years as toys..  I was not looking to collect or make any thing...

Re: Banthrico Henry J promo

If you are looking for a Banthrico Henry J promotional model there is a nice one on eBay now priced at $250.00 in apple green and has the chrome trim neatly painted in silver.   This is the wind-up version with clear windows.  They are very hard to find in good+ condition.

Thanks for showing this nice example of a Banthrico Henry J promotional model. The price is just about right for a model in this condition The seller claims to be an avid collector but does not know that Henry J promotional models were made by two different companies and there a couple of variations but no deluxe version by either company.  Due to a tip in our forum and an ad in the latest Bulletin I decided to drive to Indianapolis to see some K-F models that were being offered in a auction there and to see a collection of K-F sales invoices from a former K-F distributor in the Indianapolis area.   The auction contained some 400 new in the box model cars and airplanes as well as about six Henry J promotional models.  One promo was a new in the original box Henry J plus another new one with no box, a couple of nice ones including Lincoln Line and Banthricos and two damaged models.  I was able to get all of these except for one of the damaged ones.  After the auction I went to see the son of a former Kaiser-Frazer dealer who had several boxes of original Kaiser Frazer sales invoices from the Distributor in the Indianapolis  area.  I had bought K-F- related items from this seller in the past and he mentioned these books but was not ready to sell them at that time.   After looking at the books he asked if I would be interested in other K-F things that belonged to his Father's dealership.  In addition to the boxes of invoices he had examples of promotional items that the dealer gave away to customers as well as stacks and books full of literature and letters from the factory to the dealer, several K-F and Darrin toys and best of all three new Henry J Models in their boxes in different colors.  There was too much to fit into my car so I packed the models and promotional items and the rest is being shipped to me and I will be busy sorting for a long time.  It turned out to be a fun and rewarding trip!

After looking at over a dozen Banthrico Henry J promotional models I have concluded that the early ones had clear windows and later ones had the inside of the windows sprayed with silver paint giving a frosted look to the plastic glass and hiding the view of the wind-up motors on the motorized versions of the models.  Banthrico only made one plastic model and when the model year was over probably sold the dies to the Lincoln Line Co. who did not last long in the industry and only seemed to have made one other model, a Chevrolet TV repair or Telephone Co. panel truck with a roof mounted ladder.  The red and white boxes used by Banthrico are almost identical to those used by Lincoln Line and Lincoln Line never seemed to have installed windows in their models and the propelling mechanism was of a much cheaper design and was the only version offered.  Banthrico offered a wind-up version as well as the coaster type.  The earliest Banthrico models also had no rear support for the front bumpers.   Most had a re-inforcement that looks like a  gravel pan behind the front bumpers making them much stronger.

Picked this up yesterday at an antique mall for under $50. Not sure which version it is. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks

We can't be sure of the color but it looks black in the pictures.  It is supposed to move forward after pushing it backward on a level surface.  I have seen only one Lincoln Line with a working motor.  You made a good buy and it should polish easily and look very nice.
