Well, after a week of trying every thing I can think of, I get no spark at the spark plugs at all. I can sometimes get spark to happen when I hold the Coil to Distributor cable next to ground, but not reliably. We changed that cable (coil to Distributor) thinking that may be the problem, but still no spark at the plugs. The ground lead shown in fig. 421 page 297 of the 51 shop manual is still in place, but it seems weak and the insulation is not the best on it. Everything else appears good. I am pulling what little hair out that I have and my car wants to go. It has never fired once. The points are going back in next to eliminate possible problems with the Magic Box itself.
Yes, the kit is for positive ground 6V systems, and the coil came as recommended by Pertronix. The wiring diagram supplied with the unit was followed to the letter. I re-installed the wires several times, re-installed the old coil all with the same results, nothing.
I have read on a blog from Australia that after a long time trying to get his set up to work, "it turned out to be a earth wire that with the new coil said to use, will it doesn't need it, so I found out". Unfortunately it was an old thread so the participants are gone and won't answer questions about their problems. Not very clear is it?
Well, that's it so far. I'm calling Pertronix from work tommorrow and hopefully they can shed some light on this.
