Kasier VS57 Supercharger Questions (w/ pics)
« on: April 18, 2011, 11:51:56 AM »
I pulled this supercharger set up off of the '54 and after reading up on the sensitivty of the type of supercharger, I had a few questions:

How do I know if it needs a rebuild? Is it just normal to rebuild one after so many years out of safety? The Unit turns freely but I heard the pieces in side are quite sensitive and after 50 plus years might be corroded?

If it doesn't require a rebuild, what type of fluid does it take?

Here is a picture of a worn piece. Is it possible to purchase pieces such as this from a vendor?

Quarterly #17 Volume 4 Number 3 seems to be Number 2 & 3 combined.
In Number 3 two Supercharger Manuals were included.
Here is the First one

Thank you very much for this information!

I was reading some info here, but yours is specific to the Kaiser installation.

Still would like to know if you guys feel I should rebuild, of just clean it up and use as is.

Fill it properly with Dexron ATF and give it a try. If it needs a rebuild, you'll find out soon enough! The worn shaft can be replaced...keep an eye on ebay and in the club bulletin as parts for them do show up from time to time. A company in TX does rebuild them for somewhere near $750 (the last I checked).

The belt number is Dayco 28580GL.

Cortes121, please rejoin the club.  We need you as a member and I can't see how one can restore a KF product without the great resources; not to mention the great publications!  You can rejoin right from the home page of this site...the club web site!!

I used John Erb in Carson City, NV to go through my SC.  It wasn't a complete rebuild; he went through it, cleaned everything, and replaced the worn parts (balls, race, etc).  I think it was aroun d $400; he's a very nice guy to work with; extremely knowledgeable on these things.

Hope this helps!   Mike

Thank you both for your replies.

I will rejoin the club soon, I promise!

@joefrazer Thank you for the belt number, I was wondering about that.

@mbflemingkf That definitely helps, as I didn't know someone was performing a cleaning/inspection service for the Vs57. That definably sounds like something I would want to take advantage of.
