Alternator install

I ordered a 6 volt positive ground alternator to go on the 52 J.
I'm getting a 2.6" dia pulley to go on it
Any tips or tricks I should know about?

Well, it is good you are being thorough in ordering a pulley. However, you may want to look at pulley that was on the 6V generator.
When I put a 12V GM 10SI on my 1951 CJ3A, I took the pulley off the original generator.
Also you haven't even mentioned a mounting bracket.

I figured I would have to fab a bracket to mount the alternator. Shouldn't be too bad there. I went with a smaller 1/2"  wide pulley to get the rpm up on the alternator at idle and the belt would match the waterpump and crank pulley. I figured the little flat head 4 wouldn't be much of a rpm monster so it won't hurt to spin the alternator a little faster.

I got it from the guy that I got the alternator from. 110953076077. His name is Kevin Weust.
They are on e-bay from various sources. Here is one, 190618208217 is the item number, search this one on e-bay.

I put a 6 volt positive ground alternator, 60 amps,with a small pulley on my J and an Optima battery  . I was GREAT. Would do it again in a minute. You can fabricate a mount from angle braces from the home depot or you can just by one.

A bit of a warning. Some 6 volt alternators sold on ebay are made by clipping diodes on a 12 volt delco 10si. It gives you 6 volts but only 30 amps and that is not worth the effort.

I fabed the alt bracket today. Got some 8 gauge fine wire cable for the alt power line. Found the water pump weaping so a new water pump is on the way.

New waterpump, heater shutoff valves and hoses. Fired it up and the one wire alternator was putting 25 amps at idle, 6.9 volts. Much better than the old generator.
