Radio removal

I would think that to remove the underdash radio I would remove the two knobs and the rear brace, then the front bracket to dash, correct? Thanks, Henry.

The knobs are held on by set screws. Loosen them with at hex (allen) wrench and remove them. Pull the black bezels off, then remove the nuts behind them - this removes the face plate so you can remove the bolts which fasten it to the bottom of the dash. Then under the hood, remove the 2 bolts out on the cowl. It's heavy so keep it supported. If you need it repaired, I can do that - let me know.

I had my radio redone  by Tayman.

I now have 175 watts, 5 channel, AM-FM stereo with a port to plug in my XM radio.

Radio looks the same but sounds modern.

Thanks Fid for the info. I am going with 12V - ground on the car so it will need to be converted. Fid, any idea what you charge? Terry what did it cost? There is a shop up here that rebuilds radios, will also check hers, thanks all, Henry.

My car is 6V + ground, so the cost included a 6V + ground to 12 V - ground built into the radio case to feed the modern day 12 V radio.

I don't have the facilities or the means to do a conversion as Terry described. If you're going with a 12volt system, that would make the most sense to get a modern set up.  To repair the radios back to original is usually between $100 and $150 but it remains 6 volt and there aren't a lot of AM stations around any more.

I bought a Becker Europa 40 years ago and still have it. It is 6 or 12 volts,positive or negative Am,Fm and has a built in speaker. It is std Din size . Ihung it below the dash and "boogered" a HJ faceplate to fit. The radio is not so important on a HJ as the road noise added to the engine noise makes it sorta limited.

I pull a tear drop trailer with my HJ that has a 12V radio and disk player inside. Instead of rewiring the HJ to 12V I installed an 6V to 12V inverter. I works.
