Henry J windshield
« on: October 28, 2013, 05:53:46 PM »
Just a heads up to be carefull. I bought a car cover from Cal. Car Cover co. A real nice one, cloth with brushed cotten lining, I've used it for a year. Sat.  I was going to cover the HJ up and had the cover kind of wadded up and tossed it onto the roof and missed juged and it landed on the sunvisor. I guess the weight of the cover maybe combined with the colder weather caused the windshield to crack where the center support for the visor mounts. It cracked from the mounting point up to the top of the windshield in 3 places on the driver side, made me sick. Now I'll have to replace the windshield  and maybe the seal. This is something I never thought about. Thought I'd mention it to save this happening to someone else.
Does any one know where to get a repo or NOS windshield seal?

The placement of all windshield visors' center brackets on the divider bar of a two-pane windshield will forever be a risk factor for breaking the glass, regardless of the make of car.

If they are improperly adjusted to catch too much air then the pull on that bracket is UP and can crack the glass.  If the adjustment is causing vibration, it can break glass.  Or if there is any downward force, whether from a car wash brush or sudden addition of weight (as in your case) it will break glass.   Live and learn.

I ordered a new seal from Rudy. Haven't ordered the glass yet.
