I just purchased my first 1949-50 Frazer to restore. It is the original body, engine, etc. The 1949 plate is green and has the model as 495; body 1; body number 15944, etc., then there is a serial number F-505-015897 on plate on the door. The car was registered with the DMV as a 1950. The car runs and needs brakes and is pretty trashed on the inside dash, ceiling and the back seat is missing. As far as we know, everything else is there with the exception of broken front and back light plates. Is the door plate that has the serial number that for the 1949 or for the 1950?
 
Anyway, I've read that the 1949s that hadn't sold in '49 were redesigned with a new front grille, a Kaiser-Frazer combined emblem and a different hood ornament. My car has all the original Frazer emblem, mercury head ornament and a 49 grille we think. So do I have a 1949 or a 1950 Frazer? Since it is so 1949 already, do I restore it as a 1949 or a 1950 though I don't want to have to replace all the stuff that is original on the 1949 if I have to restore as a 50 model. My Frazer also has front to back trim at door handle level and I've yet to see any pictures of restored Frazer with the same trim. It is obvious that the trim belongs there. I appreciate all the information anyone can provide. Thank you.

Congratulations on the purchase, I think you will enjoy this car.  As for differences, there are none between '49 and '50, it was in '51 that they redesigned the front clip, etc.  Since yours is such a late serial number I would say it looks like a '50, but someone else here probably knows better than I.  Again, no need to worry what year to restore it to, '49 and '50 are the same.

   The 50 Kaisers and Frazers were left over 49's that had the ID plates changed on the door post. The plates on the firewall were not changed. There were no changes made on the body to indicate a difference between a 49 or 50 model. Good luck with your new project and post a picture if you can. Larry

Well everything posted is true but none of it answers the question which was "Is the car a 1949 or 1950?"  It is a 1950. The Model designations for the 1949 and 1950 cars were as follows:
F495 - 1949 Frazer standard
F496 - 1949 Frazer Manhattan
F505 - 1950 Frazer standard
F506 - 1950 Frazer Manhattan.
Based on the info you posted, your car is a 1950 Frazer standard.  There were very few 1950s compared to 1949s so it is somewhat rare in that regard but as the other posters have pointed out, 1949 and 1950 cars were exactly the same save for the model numbers listed on the serial tag so the 1950s, even though rarer, are not necessarily worth more than a comparable 1949.
Good luck with your new purchase and by all means, let us know if or what you might need for.  I'll check around for the parts you mentioned.

Thank you to everyone. The only parts we need after our first inventory of what is and isn't there are: radiator cap, gas tank cap, Frazer emblem the crest, the base for it is there; a back seat which we know is at a pick-n-pull; and a glove box as they destroyed the one in there and brakes. The dash is rusted but all the pieces and parts are there but not the radio; all the outside light covers and two hub caps. We believe all the trim is there and the motor fires right up. We will replace the steering wheel as it is pretty down to the metal. I think overall it is in quite good shape for $500 and an active title! I think we are missing a couple side windows.

We don't know what we can get off the pick-n-pull car but will travel there this weekend to see. I'll let you know what else we might need as we delve into her. Thank you again.

You need to upload your photos to some sort of online hosting. Some use www.flickr.com, some use http://imageshack.us/.

Then you need to post it using vb code, which is just attaching [img ]http://to the front of the web address for you picture and [/img ] to the end (without the extra spaces, of course). Most image hosts will give you the correct form for posting your image on a forum already prepared with the image tags.

Example: [img ]www.mortalenema.com/images/LittleSpecialAvatar.jpg[/img]

I left a space in the first image tag so you can see the text.
Without the extra space you get:

  Is there a 49-50 Frazer in a pick n pull yard some where?

I too have a 49-50 Frazer, Built in 49 and ID plate says 49 but reg. says 1950. Yes, there is suppose to be one in somewhere up here. I guess we will just start going to them since all the phone numbers associated with them appear to be corporate offices. If I find it I will take pictures. I see if they have what you need. I don't know anything more than it is there and has a back seat and I need a back seat. I'll also see if I can get BN and SN off of it just in case. I agree on some pictures because I'm not finding a lot of them on the web.

Thanks again for info on how to post pictures. I'll get my husband to do that as he is the computer genius.
