Oil Filter Missing Part?

I noticed that there might be a missing part on the oil filter canister of my '53 Manhattan. I have no idea what brand the filter canister is. Is there supposed to be a spring underneath the cap that goes on the hold down bolt and presses against the top of the filter itself? I know my Buick has one and I've seen lots of others that have one too. Anyone know if the ones KF used had one?

I have a Fram filter unit and it does indeed have a spring that holds down the cannister. Don't think it would work too well without one.

Crap..... . That's what I thought. Can anyone provide a picture so I might be able to figure something out or maybe someone might actually know where to find a replacement?

 It's Not a Kaiser filter, the Kaiser filter is held in place with a 2 part clamp bracket.

That looks like a Jeep unit to me. Some of the later 4 cylinder Jeeps used a filter with a flexible line.

Well you may not have gotten a correct filter with your EBAY purchase but I thank you anyway. I just wanted to see under a filter lid other than the one on my Buick so I could get an idea of what kind of spring I need. You have helped me a lot by providing the pictures so thank you! Now I just need to figure out where I can buy a replacement spring. I'm thinking possibly a brake shoe hold down spring. If it's long enough.

I hope so!! I'm giving it my best effort. It really depends on a problem that everyone faces.....$$$$. I still need about $2500 worth of parts to be back on the road. I'm working on it almost every day. Had two stuck open valves. Got one unstuck. Still trying to get the other one. Engine is not back together yet so I've been spraying the valves down with ATF/Acetone and turning the engine over by hand, then when the valve sticks open again I'm tapping the valve closed through the spark plug hole with a long bolt. Spray some more and repeat. It's working loose but still sticky. If I can get that valve to stop sticking I can get the engine put back together and continue on to the rest of my huge to do list.

Most older wrecking yards have piles of old engines and a filter lid should not be too difficult to find or look on eBay and there should be several filters that turn up that are not identified and are not expensive.

I have several filters from Kaisers I have scrapped . some have the 2 part bracket if you need it. I will clean one up and ship if you want . $25.00  will cover cleaning and shipping if thats ok.
