A little known Kaiser Frazer plant
« on: February 18, 2016, 07:05:43 PM »
During the early years of Kaiser Frazer production there was a tremendous need for steel for building the new cars and Kaiser was spending too much money by importing it from the East coast and sometimes having it flown in to Willow Run.  In 1948 Kaiser Frazer bought a steel; mill near Ogdon, Utah.  A recently found paper weight from the celebration of the first pig iron cast May 21, 1948 was made as a souvenir.  This was not a part of Kaiser Steel in Fontana but says "Kaiser-Frazer Ironton Division".  The local labor union went on strike at the plant and instead of settling with the union Kaiser decided to tear the plant down which they did and it is now part of a park and a reported sore spot for many of the local people who lived and worked there many years ago.  Kaiser Frazer history has many interesting stories to tell.
