Terry, that is pretty close to you.  Which ones did you get?  There used to be a drive-in restaurant off Woodward that we used to take our cars to near there in 1956.  I had a 1940 Ford coupe with a Desoto V-8 engine in it then.

KAISER 226 RE-BUILD
« Reply #2 on: April 27, 2016, 12:47:59 PM »
Just checked lately what can be done with my 226.  Local guy has technology and I will review and get back with him.  In the meantime, those who are interested might check out his website.  Good Luck,

www.t1racedevelopment.com

He's gotten 2,200 hp out of a 3.2 liter nissan so far, so you Darrin guys might want to contact him if you are into serious racing!!

This is an idea I came up with about 15 years ago. Talked with Bill Tilden about it and started talking to some backers, but it never got off the ground, here in Atlanta. I was gonna call them "Autominiums." We would retro-fit an old warehouse building for this, had floor plans drawn-up and everything. Glad someone else has used this idea.

The picture Jake posted is interesting. The complex where that is located has a "Cars and Coffee" get together on the first Saturday of every month from May - Oct. It's always packed and every stall is full of cars/memorabilia.  It is the home of this darn near pristine original '52 Henry J.

Fid,
I took my Darrin to a weekly "Cars 'n Coffee" meeting in one of our very "shooty" neighborhoods.  It was fraught with millennials driving their daddy's Jags, Lambos, Astons, Ferraris, etc.
Not one of these snotty nosed brats came over to look at a true classic.
I waited around until they all sped off laying down some rubber on the classic Woodward Ave.

Never again--not worth my time!

They always get a pretty good mix at the "Cars and Coffee" show I mentioned. Nice old originals, cool customs and some newer stuff as well. I'm looking forward to attending in May.

GORDIE,

I think that you mean TED'S DRIVE IN.

It is long gone but here is my Henry J in front of it with the help of a paint-by-computer program!

That is a great picture and you are correct.  It was Teds drive in and 1956 was a long time ago.  I had recently got out of the Navy and bought that '40 coupe and an Ariel square four motorcycle and went to Birmingham to stay with my Grandparents.  I got married there and went back to CA to go to school in 1957.  Thanks for the memories!
