1952 Willys Aero Wing hood and windshield
« on: February 06, 2017, 03:29:07 PM »
Hello all,

I have a '52 Willys Aero Wing 2 door that needs restored. If I can source a different hood it would save me some time and money over repairing the rusted out (gone) nose on mine.  Will '53 and later hoods fit the '52?  Does it matter if it comes from a 4 door?  There is one available about a 2 hour drive from me, but it is from a 4 door.  I haven't verified yet if it is in better shape than mine.

I will also be looking to get a new split windshield.  I found some old info on possible sources to try, but if anyone has any current info I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Hoods are interchangeable thru all years of domestic Aero production. The only difference is that the 55 hood uses a different ornament so there are more holes for the mount because the 55 unit is a long spear.

Come to think of it, some models may/may not use hood script as well.

Thanks for that info.  I figured they would interchange, but I thought it best to check with the knowledge base here.

I would imagine the windshield will be a bit harder to remedy.

bought an NOS hood several years ago, still in red oxide primer & some surface rust. Had it tank stripped and still had a pinhole to fix on one end of the nose.

I was on the hunt for a tinted small rear glass last summer. LOF Classic glass division sold out to Pilkington Glass in the 80's (found contact info online).
Also spoke to Glass Seekers NY 800-345-4527 and Auto City Classics MN 800-828-2212.

Between the 3 I found large rear windows, split front glass and one rear small glass, clear. I know someone has reproduction 1 piece front glass too.

Never did find a tinted rear and will be tackling glass by this summer so............ if anyone has or knows of one, I'm still looking.

Iowa Glass had windshields at one point. The one-piece was numbered W325. The split windshield was close to that number but I do not remember what each side was.
Hoods are very, very hard to find without rust. Find the best you can and try Rustbusters to apply metal to the perforations, then grind it down. Their metal filler acts just like lead but lighter.

Thanks for the info. I will start making some calls for the windshield.
Is there a more specific name or contact info for the Iowa Glass?  An internet search is giving me a lot of different companies.

I just purchased a part car, 1953 Willys Aero ACE,
I think the rear glass is tinted . It is miraculously intact!

Very nice and not often seen. Wish that was a small window Lark or Wing, I'd be trying to make the rest of your parts car cheaper for you!

When you take it out cut as much old rubber away before trying to (gently) push it free.

I understand the '52 windshield is a different size than the '53-'55, in addition to the '52 being split, but does anyone have the details on the difference in the dimensions?  In addition to looking for a '52 split windshield, I'd like to explore the idea of what modifications would be needed to get a '53 -'55 windshield to fit.

I never had this issue with my Willys Wagon; flat glass on every side of that thing.  :)

A one piece windshield will replace the two piece, just need to remove the divider and replace with a new rubber. I've seen quite a few '52's with one-piece windshields.

Wow, that is great news! Thanks Aeroman!  I don't know where I got the info that they were different sizes, but I'm so glad to get this new info from you.  Now I will check the notes I started (and previous replies here) and see who has the one piece windshield; unless someone has purchased one recently and has the contact info or a recommendation.

Thank you!
