Here's a pic of the page from the Willys mechanics manual that mentions the serial number's location. If anyone has a pic of a VIN in a non-stock location, I'd like to see it.

Good info, but it looks like a summary that someone typed rather than manufacturer issued info. I will keep looking.

The typeface (now called font) is the factory's. I've seen this memo in more than one place. This is the one I was referring to.

OK guys, that's good enough for me. I will look some more. Thank you all for the responses.
I'm assuming the "right" side is the passenger side of the car, but I am checking both sides.

The right and left hand side of a car is as though you are sitting in the drivers seat. For American cars the left side is the drivers side and the right side would be the passengers side.
