Brake shoe installation
« on: August 26, 2017, 03:10:51 PM »
I'm trying to install new brakes on my Henry J. I cannot get the clips that hold the shoes on to stay, is there a trick or tip that could help me?I've spent more time trying to do 1 wheel than it took me to install new front coil springs and A-arms.

The problem happens when you try to install the top spring. I use large alligator clips and attach them to the lip of the backing plate, between the plate and the face of the brake shoe. This keeps the shoe in place which makes it a lot easier to attach the spring. And since the shoes don't move, the spring clips won't fall off.
