1952 Kaiser Virginian in Alfred Hitchc0ck's Psycho
« on: September 30, 2017, 10:20:07 PM »
Has anyone else ever spotted this one?  It's not very easy to see in the compressed version that was shown on TV for many years. I just watched the widescreen version in hi-def tonight and it's quite clear there and it's also clear that it's a '52 Virginian as it has the black hood ornament cone.  I've seen the movie many times (the TV version) and never spotted it. Since I couldn't rewind it as it was being broadcast, I pulled out an old grainy VHS tape I recorded years ago. You can see it there but not as clear as it is in the widescreen version.  It's in the background as the Highway Patrolman pulls into the used car dealership just as Marion is about to leave in her "new" car.

Even though this thread didn't garner any interest, I thought I'd add to it as I was able to borrow the DVD of Psycho from a friend and snag some better images of the Kaiser that can be seen in the movie.  These are much clearer images.

You have to wonder how the Kaiser ended up in the scene. Was it a car that belonged to one of the actors or crew? Or, did they film on location and the car just happened to be parked where it was. We'll probably never know!

From www.imdb.com  trivia section on Psycho

Quote
The car dealership in the movie was actually Harry Maher's used car lot near Universal Studios. Since Ford Motor company was a sponsor of Alfred Hitch****** Presents (1955) TV show the car lot's usual inventory was displaced in favor of shiny Edsels, Fairlanes and Mercury models from Ford.

Which of course does not answer joe's question!
