Problem on my biuld
« on: November 04, 2017, 09:11:10 PM »
Ran into a problem today!

1949 jeepster but has a 52? 161F engine, well when to put the transmission in place today and won't fit... being a 6 cyl it's longer and set back to far..for tranny and drive shaft...

I thinking moving the engine forward just need ideas on motor mount setup.

Was the car originally equipped with overdrive? If not and you’re adding it, then you’ll need to either shorten the drive shaft or locate one that made for an OD equipped Jeepster.

My 51 Jeepster had a 161 F as well as OD and was equipped that way from the factory. So, it should fit.

I think this was a four cylinder car at one time, I bought a project and think it was just all the junk they had left over... I'm about 3.5 inchs too big...

If the car was a four, then it should have a deep fan shroud on the radiator. You will not use this with the six cylinder engine since the engine sits close enough to the radiator not require the shroud's use. Keep the radiator, it's the same regardless of the engine.

If the Jeepster setup is anything like what was used in the Henry J, the front motor mount brackets from the engine to the frame differ as well (my parts books are packed for a move so I cannot verify) and if they are you'll need to source a pair of them.

The transmission looks correct. It should be a T96.

Attached is a picture of my Jeepster. It was the last known assembled unit.
