Who is going to Kingsport?
« on: July 07, 2018, 01:53:33 PM »
How many of you are signed up for Kingsport?  It is going to be a great meet and a fun time for all!  I will be driving modern and leaving Los Angeles on Tuesday for a long but interesting drive of about 5,500 miles round trip.  I hope to see many of you there.  Gordie

I am probably the last person to get back from Kingsport as I just arrived home today after a 6,000 mile drive from and to Los Angeles.  It was a fine meet and I am looking forward to Texas next year.  There were many great cars and people there but not a single Frazer.  We will have to make up for that next year!  You will be reading all about the meet soon and Lee Abrahams took many fine photos which will be viewed in the near future.

I look forward to the photos, especially after the good photos on the calendar. I've seen a few posted elsewhere and it looked like all were having a great time.
From what I saw that I could read, the name tags & souvenir shirts listed it as a KF event, the only mention of Willys I've seen so far was on someone's personal hat that said Kaiser Frazer Willys…………… which is how I describe the club to others even though it's a misnomer. Not trying to start a new subject in this thread, just an observation.

We are the Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club Int. but Willys products have always been welcome and a part of our events and many of us own a Willys.  We just don't have the expertise for judging them since they started production in 1903 and have had many different models over the years such as Overland, Pilter Overland in Canada, Willys Knight, Jeeps and trucks etc.  In the future the 1946-1955 Willys passenger cars could be voted into the KFOCI depending on how many Willys products attend the Kaiser-Frazer meets and their owners joining KFOCI.  Kaiser and Willys did join together in 1953 when Kaiser bought Willys Overland.

Up front - I'm not trying to hijack this thread, just responding to an earlier reply.

According to Article 1, Section 2 of our club's Constitution, Willys built vehicles are recognized as being in scope. We currently recognize all 1946-55 Willys built vehicles and have been judging them for some time. Below is an excerpt from the Constitution that specifically speaks to which vehicles we recognize.

"The purposes for which the club are founded are for the development, publication and interchange of technical, historical and other information for and among the members and others who own or are interested in the vehicles built after 1945 by Kaiser-Frazer, Graham-Paige, Willys Motors, Kaiser Motors, Kaiser-Willys, Willys Overland, IKA, and Kaiser Jeep (including vehicles built by the above companies by their foreign divisions or under license)..."

Technically, our constitution is written such that any Kaiser or Willys built vehicle built after 1945 is "in the fold" which would include any Jeep manufactured up to the point where Kaiser sold their interests to American Motors. Today, we see few Jeeps at our meets but there could be a day where that changes.
