are the original style radiator caps (4lb) still available for 48? I have a 4 pound on car but it looks much shallower compared to the specified caps in the service manual? It looks like the original style caps go further into radiator neck than the modern equivalent?

There were two styles of cap used by KF on the early cars and difference as you surmised, is in their length. 1947 and most 48 Kaiser and Frazer cars used a cap with a longer reach than the later cars. There's one on eBay right now.
