Hood Ornament Identification

Who has one of these for sale?
I need the bottom fitting if you don't have a complete item.  Or, the plastic and bottom fitting would be sufficient.

That is a 1949-50 Kaiser accessory hood ornament.  They are hard to find because the fragile plastic sails often break.

There used to be a member in the club who reproduced the plastic sails but he no longer makes them.  If you could show us a picture of your hood ornament it might give some members an idea as how to make a replacement for the plastic sails.

The spear fits a 1949 and 50 Kaiser. The sail is someone's creation...probably because they couldn't find the clear plastic unit - they are all but unobtainium. There were no factory fitted hood ornaments on the 1947 and 48 Kaisers.

Thanks for showing the photos.  There were about fifteen aftermarket hood ornaments made for the '47-'48 Kaisers and Frazer's and when the accessory ornament became available in 1949 from Kaiser-Frazer that was the end of the aftermarket ornaments and many of the new '49 ornaments were purchased and installed on the earlier cars just as yours was and they look nice but are not absolutely correct for them.  If someone is capable of making new sails for us I would loan the sails from my NOS ornament for a pattern.

Lexan is probably the correct material.  Plexiglass is too brittle and the UV will deteriorate it.  I can produce samples if provided with a sample part.

How many of  you would like or need new wings for your 1949 hood ornament?  Let's see how much interest there would be.  Emblems, hub caps and wheel covers for Allstates are badly needed but the Allstate owners are few.  I have sample emblems and hubcaps for them also.
