instrument voltage regulator possibilities

Hi all,
Does anyone have an old, non-functioning Kaiser '51-'53 instrument voltage regulator that they might be willing to send me?
A friend of mine is a vintage radio guy and he thinks he can rebuild the things with new guts inside but he needs a guinea pig to experiment on, and I don't have an extra one.

He needs one to try first, but if it works he'll rebuild anyone's. (For a modest fee, I suppose!)

Could Someone send a Picture ? I thought it was a Adjustable Coil Resister .

I had two at one point but I've lost the one on the left - the "new" one that I bought a couple of years ago is one the right, and didn't work any better than the "old" one.
Anyway, it's one of these, a non-functional one, that I'm looking for.

Not adjustable.  I don't know the exact operation, but it is a constantly pulsating device to keep voltage constant and limit excess voltage and spikes.  Ford also used these and could probably be adapted.

The real need comes at night when driving with headlights on.  If the regulator unit (non-adjustable, sealed) in the instrument cluster (1951-53 Kaisers and Henry J/Allstates) is not working properly, water temperature will shoot up and stay at the HOT end of the scale and other readings for fuel, oil pressure and battery charge rate (or discharge depending on the load at the generator and the main regulator in the engine compartment) will not be reliable.  I speak from past experience on both 1951 and 1952 Kaisers.

May I infer here that you mean the temp indicator will read hot, though the engine will NOT actually be overheating?

My friend wants to see if he can remove the old innards from one of these things and put new innards in;  we're not talking about whether or not they can be adjusted.  I'm wondering if any of you have one that doesn't work that you could send me, one that he can experiment with.  I'll pay for the postage!
