1951 steering box

I am replacing the steering box in my 51 as she is tired and the amount of play is vast.Can anyone enlighten me as to what is involved in removing the original box and is the shaft and box installed as one unit.

check out the 1951 Kaiser and Frazer Shop Manual in the steering section for overhaul/rebuild of the box.  Otherwise new boxes are available from Adam Harder, KFOCI Manufacturing Fund.

It is easier to remove the box and steering wheel shaft as one unit and to do so by dropping it out from under the car.

New boxes are also available on ebay.

Adams information is on the bottom of the Manufacturing Fund Order Form (last page of Monthly KFOCI Bulletin).  Hope this helps.   ;)
