1949 Kaiser Traveler tailgate spacer/filler??
« on: November 26, 2010, 03:18:11 PM »
I am working on my 1949 Kaiser Traveler, I am looking for the piece that goes between the body and the tailgate, when the tailgate is down.  I saw one in a photograph on a Virginia and would like one for my traveler. It makes the car look more complete and makes the  floor smooth for sliding things in and out. Thanks for your help.

I did a bit more exploring in the car and found it under the seat along with the orig 1949 lic plate.  If any one would like a template of it let me know and I will draw it out w/measurements and materials.

Yes, please do so! I have a 50 Traveler and would like to put one together for my car. Thanks!

Here's a pic of mine...done in 2007 Chrysler black with a 30% gloss (hides the wavy sheetmetal nicely!)

Last winter, with a pattern supplied by Bob Gilzean, we made a half a dozen wooden tailgate bridges.  I have a couple left if you are interested.

I could use one for my Vagabond. Let me know the price and where to send the money. Thanks!

Jim Betts weren't you asking about the number of wooden "slats" on the bridges? If so did you get answers?

It seems that all of the bridges sold on cars had 5 slats but lots of the Promotion Material showed bridges with 7.  The bridge I duplicated had only 5 so that is what we did.  If you made the bridge with 7 slat it would have to be longer and more difficult to store in the car when not in use.
