Wheel Well Cutouts: Have you ever noticed the rear wheel cutouts on a 39 Hudson 112? They look similar to the front wheel cutouts on the Darrin idea car. Just like women's skirts, car stylists go through 'trends.' Most of this 'trends' are down right BAD. For instance, in the late 40s-early 50s stylists wanted to make the rear lights as small as possible. From 1953 to 1962 it was 'wrap around windshields.' My knee recalls the pain of the 59-60 GM 'dogleg' associated with those stupid windshields. The baroque opera windows in the 70s were quickly dated but relatively benign.

For lots more neat old pix, go to life.com and do a search for 'custom cars'. That'll bring up links to several different collections of images that includes many images of the Frazer protoype that Dutch did for KF and another of a bunch of guys standing atop a Woodill Wildfire. Proabably to prove the worth of the fiberglass body.

Looks more like a permanent advertising kiosk set up there to show off the newest models rather than the dealership itself, if you look closely. It resembles something I've seen before from other angles.... Downtown San Fransisco?  Checkout Jack Mueller's book "Built to Better the Best" on page 86 perhaps.

There is something subtly different about this stationwagon...
Yes, it is converted to a track inspection vehicle, but if you look close, it is a 4 door.
I have seen photos of similar wagons before and further down the page there is even a 51-54 converted.
So this isn't a one-off vehicle. It makes one wonder why the railroad bothered to have the bodys converted and conversely, why Willys didn't offer a factory 4 door.
