Brake Adjusters

MY '51 Kaiser brake shoe adjusters are frozen with rust. Liquid Wrench and PB Blaster are not
working. If I break the eccentric adjusters (8 total), does anyone have these? Thanks in advance.

Use a torch to heat them cherry red, they should then turn.

I don't have a torch other than a little propane gun for water pipes.

Have You tried the propane gun,it worked for me,just let them feel the heat!

As well, I have heard that heating bauky moving parts like this just a little bit and oiling/lubricating with something while it is warm (NOT HOT, and definitely DON'T use anything with a low flash point!!!!) can get a bit of lubrication in there through invisible heat cracks, as it cools, so that the next effort will not be as difficult. Comments??

Long ago I started packing my adjusters with wheel bearing grease after I got them loose-never had any problems with sticking after that. Worth doing once the above suggestions succeed.

After three days of penetrating oil and no luck, I got the propane torch out to try the heat
method. I gave then one last try before heating and ta-da they both came loose. I also
put axle grease inside the locking nut so this doesn't happen again and then saw dpledger
knows about that old trick too. Now only three wheels and six adjusters to go! Rust is the bane of
anything metal that's for sure.
