Speedometer cable

I'm looking to buy a speedometer cable and drive gear (the little gear that the cable attaches to at the transmission) for my 1953 Henry-J with overdrive. Is there any place to buy these new? If not, does anyone have them used for sale? Thanks, Bob

If you're looking for just the cable (the piece that turns inside the casing), that can be had from NAPA. You'll get a generic cable that you cut to length and then stake a tip on it for the drive gear. The gear itself is another matter. I would place a wanted ad in the club bulletin.

Bob, I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd post this on here as I found a source for the speedometer cable drive gear (pinion).
I too was looking for one and found this one on ebay so I bought it -

It was brand new in a Willys box which has it listed as Willys part number 644464. I compared it to my Henry J gear and it's an exact match. I went to Walck's 4WD Jeep site at
http://walcks4wd.com/
and searched for that part number. It comes up as "Speedometer Gear 18T" so it looks like it's available there.

If you still need one, give it a try. I know this one was a tough part because people pull the cable out, the gear falls off, and it's gone. Good to have a source for this now. A bit pricey but what else are you gonna do if you need one?

Here's another thought. There were a number of GM cables (and other brands) that are within an inch or two of being same length as K-F cables. There might not be as much slack (and there is slack) compared to the actual Kaiser-Frazer item, but it does work and does not seem to damage anything. I used a GM cable on my 1952 Kaiser and it worked well for many years.
