49 Kaiser in the movies
« on: December 15, 2012, 10:10:36 AM »
This morning i was getting out of the shower when i heard Deb screaming out about something . Thinking the worst i ran to the living room buck naked to see what was wrong . She was watching an old 1949 flick called "Impact" where the star was working on a 49 Kaiser . It had a good long segment with the car and another after that showing almost the full view down the left side . Right after he was working on a Willys with a good view . Probably everyone else knows about the movie but it was new to me . It starred Brian Donley , Ella Raines and Charles Coburn .

I set my recorder to get that movie this morning. I haven't watched it yet but now I'm looking forward to it.

You will also see Brian Donlevey working on a c.1940 Willys 4-door sedan (twice; once with hood on and once with hood off) along with a brief shot showing a 1947 Frazer parked at edge of shot next to the gas station's mobilgas pumps (regular and premium sold there).

The movie was released in 1949. I wonder how KF took to one of their brand new cars being in a shop already... and serviced by a female mechanic no less. I like the fact that she hits the engine a couple of times with a hammer, then gets in it and it starts right up.

Storyline says the car starts but runs rough so Donlevy could do stage business adjustment to make the car run smooth; engine noise was sound effect.

Cars were those found around the studio lot and loaned for the film.

There is a 1983 TV Movie called "Who Will Love My Children." Toward the end, as all the children are being set up in foster homes, a set of foster parents shows up at the house in a 1948 Frazer. When they go to leave, they start the car and it was easy to tell by anyone of us KF afficianadoes, the sound of the car was dubbed in. It clearly was not the sound of a Frazer engine when they started it up and drove it away! Last scene of that movie is the last two kids being whisked away in a 1953 Kaiser.
