Henry J armrests

Hi Gordie, looks like no one responded.  I don't have any but just so you know, the 1951-55 Kaiser arm rests will work in the J. I believe they are the same with just whatever top (to match the trim) installed on them. They're tough to find because the plastic shells become brittle and crazed from sitting in the sun if it's in a salvage yard. Keep your eyes out for some Kaiser ones - they will bolt right in and if you really want, you can have the tops recovered. I think the bolts (screws, whatever) are a bit longer and may hit the window regulator but they can be ground off a bit and made to work.

Thanks Fid,  I will look to see if I have some extras in my parts boxes.  I had no idea that they were the same as full size Kaisers and Chris said that they also fit his Willys Aero.  We just keep learning something new every day!

Be sure to shorten the screws on the arm rests as FID has suggested.  I have seen bad results with long screws.  If you have the door window rolled down and the seat back leaning forward and someone shuts your door firmly it will break the rolled down glass in the door.  UUUPS.

The fact that the seller states "two for the back" is a big warning sign as the Henry J never had arm rests in the back. Since most did not have  them at all, these are likely after-market units that someone installed in it. The current seller likely has no idea what they really are or where they came from. They are not factory KF parts.

Are the screws holding on the armrest supposed to be slotted or phillips heads??

Funny thing is, the parts book doesn't list the bolts. It's very good about doing that for just about everything else but not the arm rests. The bolts must be part of the kit as they are listed in HJ Parts book under accessories. Incidentally, there are four styles listed: Century brown and Temple gray for the four cylinder cars, Burma brown dragon vinyl and Cape Verde green dragon vinyl for the six cylinder cars. No additional ones types listed in the '52-'53 supplement so assume they used the same. Looks like we've got deluxe models covered with the pictures posted  but not the others. It makes no distinction between right and left, further evidence that those in that ebay ad are not factory issue. Mine all have slotted (flat blade) screw heads but some of the Kaiser bolts I have are philips head. As we pointed out, the Kaiser ones are a bit longer so use caution and verify what you have does not rub the glass when rolling the window up and down. Grinding is the answer if they do and you don't need to grind off much.
