Map Light on 1949 and 1950

Can some one tell me where the Light itself is for the 'Map Light' on a 1949 Kaiser? I have the 'Map Light' Switch on the dash, but can not locate the light. A pic would be great if some one can provide.

If it's a Deluxe, it's on the bottom side of the steering column housing, below the steering wheel. Not sure about the standard.

On my 49 Traveler it is also on the underside of the steering column. I have the manual trans. I can send you a photo if you can use it, let me know.

The prior comments are correct.  The "map light" is in fact on the bottom side of the steering column cover up towards the steering wheen end.   Guess they figured you would have the map in your lap (so you could read it while driving?).

So can it be said that the standard model had it there too since the Traveler did? Strangely enough, of all the KF products that passed through our driveway, we only had one 1949/50 Kaiser and it was a deluxe "Bermuda Tan" and we owned it a very short while. Dad picked it up for $50, got it running, got the brakes working and sold it for $125 which was quite a fat hog in those days. We had a '49 Frazer Manhattan for quite a while but only the one '49 K. We did keep a couple of Polaroids of it -


It was sold to some fellow in Yankton or Souix City. Very restorable at the time, circa 1971

Interestingly, my 50K Traveler does not have a map light. The pictured car is from a car for sale on craigslist. The plot thickens...!

Page 91 of the 1949 Illustrated Parts List for Kaiser and Frazer cars identifies p/n 204692 as standard on Kaiser Special and Kaiser Deluxe models with description "Light Complete" and then the individual component parts.  It is in group 7.646, "Courtesy (or Map) Light).  This part is included in the metal covers for the steering shaft from wheel to steering gear box.  If you do not have the covers (and the parts book says you should) you don't have the light.  Applications by models include having the covers on Travelers.

My Traveler has the covers but there is no provision for the light. A 49 Special I once owned did have a map light.

One thing to note, my Traveler is not equipped with a clock, passenger side sun visor, heater, or defroster (sold new in TX near the Mexican border). It was also not equipped with OD, but I've since added it.

My 1949 Traveler does have OD and Heater (per Data Plate). It does not have Map Light, nor Clock. I am adding Second Visor, Map Light, Turn Signals, Radio, Hood Ornament, Under Hood Light, Glove Box Lock, Glove Box Light, Backup Lights, Outside Sun Visor, Gas Door Trim, Clip on Side Mirror, Fog Lights, Turn Signals, and Clock. I have already added Large Spotlight and Windshield Washer.

As you can tell I am an accessory nut!
