Wanted - Side mirror for '53 Dragon
« on: June 30, 2013, 04:57:10 PM »
Would settle for a period correct substitute until I can find OEM model.

Thanks for contacting fowens@fandm.edu

It's extremely doubtful that you'll find an OEM original.  Few can even tell you what's "correct."

I'd suggest searching on e-bay such as under "50's auto side mirror" (or something like that) until you find a design you like.

The drivers door mirror on my 51 Kaiser is from a 1969 Toyota Corona.  Looks original.

The original mirror would have been a chrome plated clamp-on style unit. It would have mounted on the door post.

The 1951 Kaiser accessory folder illustrates the two authorized accessory mirrors, a clamp on style as well as a door mounted mirror.  They were recently available from a vendor in Indiana named Jay.  He is usually at Hershey but I cannot recall his last name. They are the same mirrors used by Hudson in the early fifties.  My '51 coupe has one of the door mount types and they are an attractive mirror.

Sorry, I forgot to mention. I can give you the dimensions and or a pattern to make mounting easier.if you choose the mirror from Drake, it comes with s.s. screws and a soft plastic gasket with rolled edges for paint protection.
