Sounds like you're looking for "glass tape". It's a thin cloth-like "tape" that wraps around the edge of the glass and then into the channel. Your friendly, local glass shop should have it in stock or I would think they would assemble things for you at a nominal charge. You can also use black window setting urethane instead of the "tape".
