Interior 98% Done
« on: June 22, 2013, 10:39:01 PM »
My 7 year old, 12 year old both helped on our Henry J today.  Door panels were completed and installed.  Armrests were covered and installed.  Sun visors installed.  Car is finally coming together.  Need finish kick panels and install like new steering wheel my friend clear latex today over Wimbledon white.   Here is my youngest bolting in the drivers seat.  Not sure if I want to post interior photos, too many critics on here.  Lol

Here is the seat installer at 7 years old.  Never too early to get them started!

That interior looks good to me Dave. So does the paint but of course I like that darker green on a J. Interior on a Henry J is always a challenge as there were so many patterns used and it's tough to find material that's close. It appears you found some good fabric and did some nice work. Keep the updates coming!

I will take some shots of interior tomorrow in the sunlight.  I know the interior is not original but it is old style look.  The door panels on the 52 should have curve, but doing it myself, easier to keep stitches straight.
I made 4 inch seat extenders.  I am 6'10" and it gives me more leg room but puts seat back 1 inch from rear seat.  I either put seat up when I have people in backseat or they need to be a double amputee.
I added seat belts because I lost a friend that died in a accident in a 1949 Chevy back in 1989, I always install seat belts in all my cars.
(typo at beginning post, steering wheel is in final stage of Clear Coating, temporarily using 51 kaiser spare steering wheel)
Here is photos of one of the door panels.

Kick panels  were completed today.  Here are photos of the interior.  We know its not matching original but we love how it came out.  The headliner was installed by previous owner before he reinstalled rear window.  Except for beautiful headliner, car had no interior when we bought it Easter Weekend.   Door panels were missing and were fabricated.  Seats done at upholstery shop, everything else I did with extra fabric I bought.   Upholsterer wanted too much to do door panels.
I have some of the old alligator leather from the seat backs, and some old material from back seat.  I am going to post it in the for sale section of the forum.

Nice work there Dave, great helpers. Looks neat without the upper door window surround. ;)

I like it without upper parts of door, working on glass and vent windows next.  Having not taken the windows apart myself,  going be interesting challenge puzzle to put it all back.  Like my 7 year old says, WE CAN DO IT, The parts book and shop manual have Pictures!

To clarify, upper door channels are going back on.  Not modifying it at all.  Car staying stock

Good luck on the windows. There were more than one type of clip that fastened the glass to the regulator. I'm sure you can figure it out with the parts book and shop manual.

Great Fid, one more puzzle, hopefully the clips I have are the right ones.

My two big challenges I foresee is getting the vent window rubber on the vent channels, and getting the vent window chrome frames onto the new glass.

I have been pricing out new windows for the car.  The best price I could find for both door windows and 2 front vent windows was Bob's Auto Glass who advertises on Ebay.  I didn't need all the windows he is selling.  They are in Eugene Oregon.   I called.  It was $180 for the 2 doors and two front vent windows, delivered to my door by UPS.  Local auto glass places were quoting me over $250.  I ordered the rubber channel for the big windows from Rudy, but he does not have the vent rubber.  Any ideas?  How hard is it to squeeze new glass into the frames?

At a local car show ,I Met a man whose uncle worked at KF assembling HJs. His job was installing the rear windows. He was
the inside man.He pressed against the glass with his head and two hands while the outside man pulled the cord that brought the gasket over the lip.Said  it was the only job he had there. Sotra made me feel good about my own level of professional achievements.
