DARRIN HORN BLOWING MECHANISM !!
« on: June 02, 2009, 08:10:09 AM »
Good morning everyone! After approximately 1300 joy filled hours, Darrin #145 is just about ready to hit the streets! One of the last items to install is the horn "button", etc. Looking at the "sports car" parts list, I must be missing a few tidbits. Would anyone out there in Kaiser land be able to direct me to a picture of what the assembly consists of and what it should look like? Please? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gary

Since the steering wheel, horn ring and medallion (horn button) are the same as the Henry J, it should be the same. Here's a diagram from the Henry J parts book -

Well FID posted while I was preparing to do so. I did check the parts numbers in the Darrin and HJ parts books and they appear to be the same. Here is the diagram I had copied as well.

Thanks guys! That's exactly what I was looking for. I didn't take this car apart, and the last guy was not real organized with the parts he removed. Needless to say, he no longer works here! There were other car's parts mixed in with the Darrin stuff! I'll start searching for some new pieces.

Thanks again, Gary.

darrin145 - Item 3 on the exploded diagram is a foam rubber ring. Strangely enough, it is also used as a spacer on top of the air cleaner on Darrins. The original material decayed into an orange glob as it aged.

And item 11 is a rubber ring.  I've found rubber o-rings at hardware stores that make fine subs. As long as you can stretch it around the grove in the horn button and make it fit it should hold it in place. I even used one of my daughter's hair pony's for one once; worked great.

Good morning! I do have one of those "orange glob" rings, but I have 2 new ones also (not orange!). I have an assortment of o-rings here to replace item 11 so I think I'm good to go! This coming Sunday (6.7.09) is an AACA show, here in town, hopefully the weather holds!! Wish me luck!

Many thanks, Gary.
