What rear end would fit under a 53K ?
« on: June 03, 2009, 04:30:34 PM »
I pulled the original rearend out as the springs were so worn it had a decided port list. I plan on putting a more up to date one in with disc brakes. Has anyone done a swap like this yet? If so what rearend did you use? Dan

I know the track is 58 inches. I think that's the same as my Jeep Cherokee. What is it WMS to WMS? What's your gearing?

Not that I have any answer for you, but it might help me to imagineer. I'm always dreaming of different combinations for my Cherokee. Like the popular Ford 8.8 swap from an Explorer. That comes with ABS and is plentiful. I even have a spare D44 in my garage, but it's 3.54 and has drums.

OK, I'll stop getting my Jeeping into this Kaisering.

It will also depend on which transmission you have.  A Hydramatic would have a different ratio than a 3 spd or a 3 spd with OD. Those things will make a difference in how it performs and how it should be geared.

I think you really need to decide what your priorities are. You need to worry about what to do about your springs first. Changing the rear end doesn't change the springs.

Hey, did you decide why your rearend had a list? Was it because of a broken main leaf or perhaps worn out bushings?

The springs were worn out. Did not find any broken but the first clue I had that sometning was wrong was the helper spring attached to that side and it was still sagging. I plan on putting a new rearend under it and will replace the springs at the same time.
