Starters
« on: January 29, 2015, 07:50:51 PM »
Is there a" physical" difference between a 1952 and a 1953 stick shift starter other than the part numbers? I have had the starter rebuilt twice and it still touches the flywheel just enough to make a clinking noise until the engine warms up. the starter on the car is p/n1107087 listed as a 53 and the starter for a 53 is p/n 1107125

My 1953 Motor's manual shows 1107087 as applying to the 1952 model cars. P/N 1107125 fits the 53s. I think the only difference is the follow thru bendix...which might be the reason for your problem. I had a Willys Jeepster that did the same thing...the starter hung up enough to just make contact with the ring gear. It turned out to be a worn bendix that wasn't returning all the way.
