Oil Filter ID
« on: February 24, 2015, 02:40:24 AM »
This is the filter that was on my '53 Manhattan when I bought it. I've suspected that it was not the correct type for my car for some time because of the way it looks and the fact that it did not fit in the original canister bracket. I recently got an INCREDIBLY good deal on an original Purolator unit from a fellow forum member (THANKS!!) and replaced the suspect unit. Now that it's off of the car, I got some good pictures of it. Anyone recognize it?

I see the remains of some white paint. It looks alot like the Wix unit I removed from my 51K many moons ago. Wix painted their canisters white.

Good eye. There is what appears to be white paint on there. I didn't know if it was originally white or if it was orange that had the color baked out of it. More likely that it was white. The more I look at photos of original Fram and Purolator units, the more I am convinced that it is neither of those brands. I'll look into the Wix units and see if I can find a match. Thanks!
