53 manhattan trunk lock

Ok hear is an easy one for somebody not me though, Need to remove my whole lock mechanisim from my trunk so that area can be sanded and painted. I do not have the key so how are they removed?

You do not need the key to remove the trunk lock assembly. Remove the stainless steel escutcheon by removing the spring clip retainer on the back side of the trunk. A screw driver and a small hammer work well to tap the retainer spring off of the escutcheon. The lock barrel and shaft are held in with a cotter key. Remove the cotter key and the barrel lock and shaft will slide out.
