Darrin Frames??
« on: September 07, 2015, 01:25:04 PM »
I happened to find a picture of a Darrin Frame (#50, maybe)  and it looked different than mine, it did not have the bracing I have.    Do those of you who have restored your Darrins have the reinforcement I have?

That last picture looks like mine, #81, with the tube bracing.   I guess they added that later in the builds.

Well, the second picture is the frame for my Darrin #357. This frame is different than any Darrin frame made because it has been highly modified. You frame is correct for the later Darrins. The later frames were reinforced as running production changes. I think Terry T. can help with the documentation and what was done at what vehicle number. Here are some more photos of my frame for #357. Photos 117, 118, 119. The next photos are of a factory correct late Darrin frame. Photos 2, 5, and 10. The factory added  bracing in an attempt to make the chassis stiffer. Some of the old KFOC monthly Bulletins and Quarterly publications had articles on adding an X-brace to the center of the stock chassis. I did some other modifications to the chassis for front and rear suspension, engine and transmission, fuel tank and exhaust, as well as major stiffening at the center of the chassis. Those that went to Gettysburg had the chance to see this chassis under my Darrin 357. I know the judges saw it and liked what they saw. I drove from MA to Gettysburg and back to MA without any problems and the ride was sweet.
