rear axle HJ
« on: January 05, 2016, 08:53:13 AM »
Looking for a 4/19 (4.55) rear axle, trying to put together an overdrive set up for my '53 HJ, thanks, I live near the NY/PA border south of Syracuse, NY. Hopefully someone near the North East and/or not too far might have the part

I have two axles removed from a 1951 overdrive HJ rear end.  I'd like $50.00 for the pair plus shipping.  I'm located 150 miles south of Chicago and 120 miles west of Indianapolis, to give you some idea of the shipping cost you might check with the post office  my zip  code is 61841.           please advise     Leximom at Kfguy53@yahpp.com

axles only

Just to be clear - it's the entire rear end you need to change. Just the axles won't help. It's the ring gear and the pinion that determine the gear ratio for an overdrive equipped car. That's why it's easiest just to change the entire rear end. The 4/9 (4:55) is the one originally used for both 4 and 6 cylinder HJs with OD. If Mr. Manhattan has complete rear end/differentials, then that's what you need Mike.

Yep, thanks Fid, worded that poorly, looking for the entire differential with a 4.55 gear ratio

That's a 41/10 which was used in the 6 cylinder without overdrive.  A four cylinder would probably have a hard time with that one.
